As a young man, I grew up in the foothills of rural North Carolina. As a child, I had a love for hunting and dogs, which prompted me to bring home numerous hunting dogs and family pets.
I began my career as a North Carolina Wildlife Officer in 1997, and when given the opportunity to become a canine officer I jumped at the chance. This is when I met my partner Bonnie, a black Labrador Retriever. Bonnie tested highest out of 50 Labradors, and I was fortunate enough to have her assigned to me. I was trained by the late Tracy Bowlin, and graduated from the Ventosa Canine Handling School. My training included obedience, tracking, and detection. During our career, Bonnie and I tracked down many suspects, including a suspected murderer and a lost Alzheimer's patient.
Upon Bonnie's passing, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase her sister, Maggie, who had the same incredible demeanor and abilities as her sister. This was the beginning of what is now One Oak Kennels.

I have been breeding AKC Labradors for over six years now and training them for over ten. It is my goal to breed the best all around working Labrador. The qualities I breed for are extreme intelligence, calm demeanor, and incredible work drive. Pups from past litters have gotten rave reviews and many owners have informed me that my Labradors are the best dogs they have ever had. Dogs from my bloodline and past litters are gun, tracking, antler, therapy, service, and law enforcement dogs. The same qualities that it takes to be a successful working dog are also the ones that make the best and most loyal family companions. Many of my dogs are also cherished family members. No matter what your needs are, One Oak Labradors are up for the challenge. All dogs are up to date on shots and come with a health warranty. When you purchase a dog from me you become a part of the growing One Oak Kennels family. I will be here for you throughout your dogs life to answer any questions or concerns. I want to be kept up to date on your dogs adventures and accomplishments. These dogs are my passion in life, and I view them as part of my family. My Labradors have brought me happiness and helped me get through many rough patches in my life. Although it's hard to let them go to new homes, it brings me great satisfaction to know that these "life changing canines" will bring love and happiness to you and your family.
We offer basic and advanced obedience classes.
Your dog will be trained on site at One Oak Kennels in all aspects of basic obedience. All behavior issues will also be addressed. It is required for you to visit your dog around the halfway point of it's training.
During your visit, I will show you all the commands that your dog has learned and still working on. At trainings end, I will go over everything your dog has learned. If you have any problems at home with your dog bring him back for a free lesson.
In order for your dog to complete advanced training, he or she must have completed basic obedience. Every dog is not a candidate for advanced training, unfortunately some dogs have limited abilities. During advanced training all training will be off leash and your dog will be exposed to extreme distractions. If you choose, I can keep your dog consecively , for four weeks and complete both basic and advanced training.
Your dog will be trained to find antlers and bring them back to you on heal.
Your dog will be trained weekly on site. When your dog becomes efficient in all aspects of antler detection, training will be concluded. The time needed to train your dog varies from dog to dog. It is my goal to train your dog in the most effective and efficient way possible.
I currently train alert and assistance dogs.
I enjoy training service dogs, but unfortunately I don't have the facilities or time to train multiple dogs at once. This is to my clients advantage, since I will be focusing solely on your dog. Another big advantage is you will not have to travel to a facility to train with the dog, I will come to you and train in your home environment.
